Country View Elementary School celebrated the grand opening of its new playground on September 11, 2024. The playground was made possible thanks to a generous R.A.M.P grant, community donations, and the tireless efforts of school staff, parents, and community members.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by school officials, local dignitaries, parents, and excited students. Principal Mary Heslop expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the project, highlighting the dedication and hard work of the school community.

The new playground is a testament to the power of collaboration and community spirit. Principal Heslop added "This will benefit their education by allowing them to release energy, build social connections, and come back to the classroom ready to learn."

The playground features a variety of play equipment, including slides, swings, climbing structures, and imaginative play areas. The new space is designed to promote physical activity, social interaction, and creativity among students.

"The community all came together and made it happen," said Amber Jones, the Country View PTA President. She was impressed with how quickly it happened once everyone got involved.

The playground project was funded in part by a grant from Weber County R.A.M.P  and through fundraising efforts by the school's PTA and community members. The school also received generous donations from local businesses and countless individuals.

The new playground is expected to benefit students for years to come and serve as a valuable community resource.

Monday, September 9th, marked a significant milestone as Haven Bay Elementary School officially opened its doors, welcoming excited students and staff. Principal Justin Skeen shared his thoughts on this special occasion during an interview, highlighting the joy of seeing the students arrive.

"You know, once the students showed up this morning, it put everything together for us. That was the most important thing—getting kids on our campus, all in the same location. It made everything else, like the ongoing construction, not as important. The students are happy and excited to be here," Skeen said. "That makes all the difference in the world for us."

Reflecting on the students’ reactions, Skeen described their awe at the new school facilities. "Well, for one, they think their school's amazing. When they see their classrooms, many said things like, 'Wow, my room is so big!' or 'I can't believe this is my school.' That excitement carried into today, and there's such a positive energy—it’s like none other."

Principal Skeen also emphasized Haven Bay's focus on building community and teamwork. "Our expectations are to build teams and create a strong school culture, which is really important here at Haven Bay—from the office to every aspect of the building, to our students. We want to build a sense of community."

Haven Bay Elementary has already set the tone for a bright future, where students, staff, and families can thrive in a supportive and collaborative environment. As the new school year begins, Haven Bay is poised to become a cornerstone of the community, shaping young minds and fostering a sense of unity.

West Field High School officially opened its doors for the first time on September 3rd. Excitement was high as students, teachers, and staff gathered for the first day of classes. "Everything is so innovative and fresh, and the energy is just palpable," shared the Student Government Advisor. Students were equally thrilled, with many eagerly discussing upcoming events. "We have a lot of activities for homecoming in the first week of school" one student remarked. As students flooded the halls, one simply said, "I’m excited for football games and meeting new people." Principal Martini echoed the enthusiasm, calling it the start of a tradition of "greatness and excellence." As one teacher put it, "It's great to finally have students in the building after weeks of preparation." The Longhorns are ready to kick off a memorable year.

Since 1965, the football rivalry between Weber High School and Roy High School has been a highlight in Northern Utah. Known as "The Shield Game," this annual event showcases the fierce competition and deep-rooted traditions of both schools.

The tradition of the Shield Game continues to be a highlight of the high school football season, drawing large crowds and support from both communities. Fans packed the stadium, creating an electric atmosphere that underscores the significance of this rivalry.

Roy High pulled off a dramatic 48-34 victory over Weber in the highest-scoring game in the rivalry's history. Senior Robert Young was the standout, contributing five touchdowns, including a 74-yard run that sealed the win. Roy retained "The Shield," advancing their all-time series lead to 34-25.

Weber High made several strong pushes, keeping the game competitive until the final quarter. Their offense, led by key players, managed to keep pace with Roy through most of the game. However, Roy's defense stepped up in crucial moments, making important stops that kept Weber from closing the gap. Weber’s resilience was evident, but they were ultimately unable to overcome Roy’s high-powered offense.
